Weekly Wishes

Oh. My. Word. This weekend was pure bliss. It was D’s last weekend of freedom before he heads up to Chicago and enters the real world, and my heart had been longing for the ocean for so long. We decided a quick little weekend trip was the perfect way to celebrate and enjoy life down here where it’s warm before Chicago.

We played with some dolphins while on a boat our first day, then spent time on the shore enjoying the water and food and drinks and all of that that comes with time on the beach. Now I am sun tanned a little burnt (my face, ouch) and feeling super refreshed and ready to take on these last few weeks before I head up to Chicago too!

Since last week I set goals for the month, I’ll jump straight into this week’s goals!

1) List all of my furniture on Craigslist. Hopefully someone will want my like-new things and I can get a little more money for moving.

2) Work on my TFA pre-institute work more. I got a little behind on this which is definitely not something I want to allow myself to do.

3) DO LAUNDRY. Goodness I need to do this.

4) Get everything set up for moving- schedule my gas and electricity to be turned off and such.

That will take care of this week! What are your goals for the week? Let me know so I can help you along!

This weekend was a whirlwind in the very best of ways. Friday I spent cuddled up in my bed studying with D by my side. Saturday I passed my final licensure exam! I am all licensed and official to teach Special Education now! Oh, the relief.

My friend Lissette came to visit from Florida this weekend and it was so great to see her! She came up for our Alma Mater’s alumnae weekend and stayed with me Saturday night. We ended up going to the Sweetwater brewery for some Atlanta fun and then on to the zoo! We were able to see so many baby animals and the baby gorilla was one of the most precious things I’ve ever seen. Saturday night was for dancing and laughing with other alumnae at our college’s 125th birthday party! Good ole Agnes threw a good party for us.

Sunday Lissette had to leave us to drive back down to Florida, and I was in need of a relaxing day to catch up with life. I convinced D to go on a walk with me that ended up with us hanging out at the little lake in our apartment complex feeding some geese and marveling over the turtles and ducklings. We sat on the porch and just enjoyed the sunshine for a couple hours, disconnecting from the world and enjoying each other’s company. Then we came back for a nap just in time! The thunderstorms rolled in and I made sure to open all my windows to let the rain air in.

I’m so sad to see this weekend end! I think I need just one extra day!

On to weekly wishes. Last week’s goals were to

1) Get more sleep. Yep! I could still stand to work on this one but I feel a lot more caught up now!

2) Keep up with my P90X3 workouts. I’ve been doing pretty good with this! I slacked on Saturday because I was busy all day but I keep telling myself it’s worth it!

3) Wash my face every night. Womp womp. Oh well. I did pretty well but it didn’t happen every night. Sometimes there’s just something so satisfying about falling into bed and going straight to sleep without doing any preparation.

4) Journal every other night. I did journal quite a bit this past week. It’s helped me to process and work through some things and I feel a lot better about how my brain is working and feel more confident in my choices.

This week, my goals are pretty simple. I don’t have any more studying to do so I can work on some more self-care and work on getting some things ready for Chicago.

1) Figure out what I’m going to do with my apartment. I need to make a decision soon if I don’t want to get penalized for breaking me lease! As long as I give them enough notice I’ll be fine.

2) Plan out this coming weekend. I can’t decide if I wanna take myself on a mini-vacation or take the weekend to clean and catch up on life. I know what I should do but… my xenophilia just ignites the travel bug in me and I want to go SOMEWHERE and see new people and things!

3) Get some of my pre-institute work done for Teach for America. My licensure studying may be done but I’m no where near done with what I need to do before June! It’s a lot of work but it’s going to be so, so worth it.

4) Make some intentional time to spend with friends this week. I’ve gotten into a habit of just doing my own thing once I get home from work but I’d like to plan a couple things out of my apartment this week.

That’ll do for now. What are you goals for the week? Let me know so I can cheer you on!

Teach for America

Still so, SO excited!

It’s a brand new week which means it’s time for some new weekly wishes!

Last week was full of exciting news and big changes to come. As I work on that and on re-branding and re-designing this blog, I’ve got a whole new set of goals to work toward.

Let’s take a look at last week’s wishes:

1) Get better. Done! Mostly. I’ve still got a bit of a lingering cough, but at least I’m able to be back at work (I missed 2 days last week!) and feel a million times better!

2) Clear out the living room of things that don’t belong there. Also mostly done. I put most things away where they are supposed to go, but I’m still trying to find a place for a couple more things. At the same time, I’m getting rid of things I won’t be able to take with me when I move!

3) Consciously enjoy this stage of life. Happening. Everyday. I keep reminding myself and life keeps throwing things at me that remind me of just how lucky I am in this life.

Now right on to this weeks goals!

1) Fill out all of my acceptance papers for Teach for America! I’m so excited to be starting on this journey!

2) REALLY clear out my living room. I am determined this week!

3) Plan out meals and groceries for the next 2 weeks. I let myself get a bit behind while I was sick so now I’ve got to get back on track! I feel so much better when I don’t have to worry about what I’m going to make because it’s already all ready for me!

4) Plan out a Stone Mountain day with my girls. We had brunch this past weekend and it was lovely. And I’ve been nominated to plan next weekend’s outing! The weather is supposed to be wonderful so I think a little hike is in order!

Weekly Wishes!

It’s Monday! Which means it’s time to write out my goals for the week and link up to Weekly Wishes to keep myself accountable for following through! I’m sniffling and coughing my way through the day today and willing my body to get it together ASAP! This weekend wasn’t near as productive as I wanted it to be because my body was so exhausted from fighting this illness, so I’m hoping this week will bring better health!

Last week I wrote out my goals for the whole month of March, so I’ll get straight to this weeks goals today:

1) GET BETTER. At the end of last week I knew I was getting sick. This weekend it hit. Hard. I don’t have time for this! I need to feel better so I can do my job to the best of my abilities and so I’m not so tired all the time!

2) Clear out the living room of things that don’t belong there. When I moved in, I just put everything into the living room. Little by little I’ve been putting things where they belong but there’s still a pile of boxes in the middle of the floor!

3) Consciously enjoy this stage of life. This week will bring the final decision on if I move to a new job or not, and I’m working on really and truly being ok with however things go. I need to not be upset if I need to move for this job, and not be upset if I don’t get it and end up staying where I am. There really are great aspects to both options, I just need to remind myself of that more.

Another week has flown by around these parts, thanks mostly to the ice storm we had that gave us a nice weekend in the middle of the week. We worked Monday and Friday last week and that’s it! The rest of the week was spent taking long walks/ skates on the ice, snuggling my friend Megan’s puppy, and cooking just about ALL the food ever. Because why not?

On to my goals, last week’s wishes were to:

1. Pull off a successful surprise for my boyfriend’s birthday. Done! The snow made it so we couldn’t go, but I told him what was going to happen and we rescheduled to do it in a couple weeks.

2. Get in a few good workouts despite the big storm we’re supposed to be having this week! Did it! One workout I’m counting is moving all my furniture things into storage until I move next month. They were just taking up too much space and lifting all that gave me a good arm workout!

3. Figure out my banking status. Finally taken care of! Got a brand new bank and saving plan in order!

I feel pretty accomplished for last week! Now onto this week’s wishes. I hope to:

1. Budget! I got a little crazy this weekend buying bedding for my new apartment and getting excited about having money again from fixing my bank. This week I need to work on controlling my spending so I can put more into savings!

2. Catch up with friends. Is it bad that I need to make this a conscious goal? Probably, but it’s needed. I’ve been so back and forth and running around with life lately and I need to take a minute and spend time with people who really matter.

3. Get to bed earlier. For those of you who know me in real life this probably sounds silly because I got to bed at like 10 or 10:30, which is already early for a lot of people. I got behind on sleep this weekend though catching up on Revenge, and I need it for work!

My goals are pretty simple for this week but I feel like they’re super important. What are your goals for the week? Need some encouragement? Link up with us through Weekly Wishes!

candy heartsLast week I made my Monthly Goals so this week I’ll jump right into this weeks wishes!

1. Pull off a successful surprise for my boyfriend’s birthday. It’s the day before Valentine’s Day and I’m TERRIBLE with secrets because I physically do not know how to lie. So far I’ve been doing good and I just have to make it to Thursday before I spill the beans.!

2. Get in a few good workouts despite the big storm we’re supposed to be having this week! Hopefully we don’t get all snowed in again, but they’re saying we’re about to.

3. Figure out my banking status. Because of suspected fraudulent activity my bank put a hold on my account and cancelled my card. I super appreciate that they are looking out for my money, but they didn’t tell me that they were doing that so I was left at the Target check out line trying to figure out why I couldn’t use my card. We mostly got it figured out but I have yet to get a new card. I’m hoping that comes in this week so I can have money again!

Weekly Wishes!

Thanks for stopping by today! Today I’m sharing my Weekly Wishes and goals for what I’d like to accomplish this week and also keeping myself accountable for what I did in the past week. This has been a great way so far for me to set smaller short term goals that are more realistically reached.

Last week’s goals were to:

1) Keep working out and work on running longer distances. Oops. I worked out a little but didn’t go much further than 3 miles at one time.

2) Getting a few more things for my apartment. SUCCESS in a BIG way! I scored a dining table and set of 4 chairs off Craigslist from a guy who had just gotten married and needed to get rid of things FAST. They are super cute and will fit perfectly! I’m going to repaint the table because it’s a little chipped but I’m way excited to make it more “me”! I also got a bedding set that I am SO in love with. It’s perfect!

3) Keep to my budget! On it! I did spend a bit this past weekend on apartment things but it was all necessary and I have enough left over so I’m calling this one a success too!

This week, I’m really going to try to

1) Keep working out. Beating a dead horse? Nah, this will honestly probably be on my list all year. You’ve been warned!

2) Work on being more ok with just letting things happen. I’m really bad about needing to know what’s going to happen and when and planning out each step of my day. This has been a source of anxiety lately so I’m working on just taking a breath and being ok with changes in plans.

Weekly Wishes!

How has another week gone by already? It seems like yesterday I wrote last week’s wishes out and it’s already Tuesday before I’m doing this week’s! This weekend was for shopping for new things for my apartment, moving furniture in my friend Megan’s apartment, and relaxing and being grateful for an extra day of rest and reflection because of the holiday.

Last week’s goals were to:

1) Get bedding for my new mattress! 2) Work out 2 days this week. 3) Sign a lease for a new apartment! 4) Create my first Creative Collective post.

I’d say I did pretty well!

I did get some sheets and a mattress pad for my bed, but I’m holding out on a comforter until I find the PERFECT one that I can just fall in love with. I have enough bedding for now, but I’d like a new one to bring it all together. I got my workouts in! AND I got approved for my lease so now I just have to wait a couple months before I can move in (I’m holding out for my ideal location and floor plan)! And as for my Creative Collective post, I failed a little by not making what I planned and posting it late, but it ended up turning out alright! I’m still working on another Word of the Year project, but I have a feeling that one I’ll do as I get closer to my moving date.

For this week, I’d really like to:

1) Keep working out and work on running longer distances. The weather going from 5 degrees up to 65 yesterday definitely helps me want to get out there more!

2) This weekend- work on getting a few more things for my apartment. I’m doing this slowly but surely so that when I move in I’ll already have most of what I need!

3) Keep to my budget! Last weekend I went and did some shopping with my friend Megan and we each got some incredible deals on things for our apartments. However, that means that this week we are on ramen and PB&J budgets. We’re working on being better at adulting.

Weekly Wishes!

I am SO excited to share these this week!

First, let’s take a look back at last week’s goals:

1) Work out at least 2 days this week
2) Make some decisions on apartments
3) get through the Mayor’s inauguration

I am happy to announce that I accomplished ALL THREE! Woo!

I got my workouts in (even if it was just a short one or walking the dog a bit faster).

I made some MAJOR decisions on apartments. I found one that I am in LOVE with and I will be putting in my rental papers for tomorrow! I also bought a new mattress and I’m already in love with it. I sleep so well on it and I can’t wait for it to be able to move into my apartment when it’s ready. For now it’s living in my boyfriend’s house (lucky man).

I also went by a home furnishing store and bought an ottoman because clearly that’s the only piece of furniture I need, ha! Really I just saw it and loved it and had to take it home. It’s also living at my boyfriend’s for now because there’s more room there than in my friend’s apartment where I’m currently staying.

And as for the Mayor’s Inauguration, it went great! The office is back to normal and all is well here in the Mayor’s Office. Now we’re back to normal busy instead of wild busy the way we were for the time leading up to the event!

For this week, I’m hoping to

1) Get bedding for my new beautiful mattress! I’m probably more excited than I should be about this bed, but it’s my first real big purchase for my apartment so I’m allowing myself to nerd out about it a little bit.
) Work out 2 days this week again. Starting small but at least it’s something.
3) Sign a lease for a new apartment!
4) Create my first Creative Collective post. I’ve got my word in mind and somewhat know how I’m going to do it so now I just have to make it.

These goals make me feel like I’m becoming an adult and it is TERRIFYING. Trying to take things one day at a time!

As always, linking up with Melyssa for Weekly Wishes!

14 in 2014!

Last year, instead of the classic type of New Years resolutions, I wrote a list of goals to keep in mind and to strive for in my phone. It acted as a sort of reminder of the kind of woman I wanted to be and the kind of things I wanted to accomplish in 2013.

That list consisted of:

  • Grace
  • Patience
  • Persistence

And the tangible:

  • Graduate from college
  • Find a job
  • Find a place to live with reasonable rent and a decent neighborhood
  • Feel good in my body

I’m happy to say that I accomplished most of what I set out to do this year. I will continue to strive for grace, patience and persistence. However, I feel like I’ve taken on my struggles this year with a bit of all three. They say there are years that ask questions, and years that answer. 2012 was a year of questions, 2013 was definitely a year that answered.

I transitioned from college student to college graduate (woo!), I found not just 1, but TWO jobs that I have absolutely loved. Even though I had to leave my teaching job, I learned so much in that time and I wouldn’t change those few months for anything. Plus, I am so happy in my new job! I feel truly lucky to have this experience.

As far as an apartment goes, I had one over the summer of course, but since moving to Atlanta I’ve been staying with a friend. This goal didn’t go quite as planned, but I am working on it currently and should have my own place by mid-February! Exciting!

Feeling good in my body. Well, this is a whole different post for a different day. But I’m working on it and learning to accept my body just the way that it is and cherish it for all the things it can do.

Going into 2014, I want to continue to keep my goals of grace, patience, and persistence. I feel that they are still pertinent to the year to come. I also want to add 14 more tangible things that I am hoping to accomplish this year.

-Adopt a pet
-Attempt a craft off Pinterest
-Put as much money into savings as possible
-Establish a killer work wardrobe
-Be conversational in French
-Compliment someone every day
-Floss more often
-Be more creative
-Learn to cook at least 5 meals
-Get my own apartment
-Visit 5 New (Interesting) Places
-Keep up with my blog
-Call mom and dad at least once a week

With these goals in mind as we head into this new year, I am excited to see what life brings me. Last year was a year of transitions, and I’m hoping that this year will bring a new type of stability. I am in a new city with a new job and my new college degree, and I’m ready to just “be” for a while and let life come to me. This means doing the best work I can and preparing for grad school the best that I can and being the best person that I can.

Bring it, 2014.
